Yin Yoga

A gentle and soothing class suitable for all levels and designed to help soften your body, relax your mind and soothe your spirit. Yin yoga includes long held postures, which are mostly seated and lying down, that help you become more mobile and flexible. The simplicity of the practice enables you to release mental and emotional tension and you’ll be treated to a guided relaxation at the end of each class which will leave you feeling fully rested.

A slow and gentle yoga class focused on flexibility and releasing tension. Suitable for all levels including beginners. The postures are held for longer than in a regular class with the aid of props for comfort to encourage release

What is yin yoga and what are its benefits?

Yin yoga is a gentle yet powerful mind-body-spirit practice that offers relief from the stresses and strains of the busy lifestyles many of us lead. Through long held, deeply releasing postures the muscles of the body relax allowing the work to begin on the deeper, less pliable tissues of the body, easing tension and creating more flexibility.

As you hold each pose, you'll be invited to turn your attention inwards, allowing yourself to notice whatever arises in your body and mind. You'll cultivate more patience and a greater willingness to surrender.

Each class finishes with a guided relaxation so you'll leave feeling fully rested and restored.

I'm new to yin yoga - is it for me?

Yes! The classes are suitable for beginners and seasoned yogis alike as everything is explained and there are lots of options and alternatives for the poses. The classes are welcoming and friendly and it would be great to have you join our community.

If you're pregnant (congratulations!) and new to yoga, we'd suggest you try our dedicated pregnancy classes.

If you have any injuries or conditions, please let Alison know before the class so that you can discuss whether any particular pose options/modifications might be suitable.

What should I wear and do I need to bring anything?

We suggest that you wear something comfortable that allows you to move, sit and lie down comfortably. Layers are always very handy as are socks so that you can keep warm, particularly during relaxation.

Please bring a yoga mat if you have one and a blanket or large towel. If you have your own yoga props such as blocks and bricks please feel free to bring those too, although don't worry if you don't have these - a blanket/towel can be just as helpful.

Are there discounts for booking multiple yin classes?

You can choose how you would like to pay for the classes. Single classes ae £8.50. A five class pass which lasts for 7 weeks is £40 and a 10 class pass which lasts for 14 weeks is £75. You can purchase class passes on our membership page.

Do you host longer yin sessions and workshops?

Yes! As well as the weekly classes on Mondays, Alison hosts regular 2 hour sessions and workshops, which allow you to take a deeper dive into the practice and learn more about the physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual aspects of yin yoga. about the Teacher

Alison Gough

Alison specialises in teaching yin yoga, restorative yoga, yoga nidra and gentle yoga having done additional training with Sarah Powers, Jo Phee, Yoga Medicine and James Reeves. Her classes focus on providing plenty of time to rest, relax and take a break from all the busyness, activity and stresses of everyday life. You'll be encouraged to practise at your own pace and develop your connection between your body, mind and spirit. Alison's wish is that you experience a greater sense of ease and that you leave class feeling calm, soothed and refreshed.
