Beginners Yoga: Ladies Only

A free to access beginner's yoga class. This is a very gentle and welcoming course introducing you to yoga postures and breathing techniques to help you to manage daily stresses and anxieties and improve flexibility, balance, strength and breathing.

In this yoga course you will learn yoga movements that are beginner-friendly, relaxing breathing techniques, stress and anxiety coping techniques and guided meditation relaxations.

The free sessions will run from August 3rd - October 10th and you are welcome to attend as many as you are able to make.

This course is made possible though the generosity of Mandala members, as well as funding from Active Lancashire, Sport England and Community Gateway Association as well as the kind donation of space from ProjectFit. The classes will run from August 3rd - October 10th.

A free to access class that combines gentle beginner-friendly yoga postures with relaxing breathing and guided relaxing meditation.

Is this class suitable for beginners?

Yes, the postures are very clearly explained and are beginner-friendly. You don't need to have experienced yoga before.

Do I need to be flexible or fit?

No, you do need to be able to sit on the floor and get back up again fairly easily, but this is a very gentle class focused on helping you to feel relaxed and calm and to help you build flexibility, strength, balance and breathing capacity.

What should I wear and bring?

We provide mats. Wear something you are comfortable stretching in, for example leggings, joggers or shorts and a t-shirt or vest top. We will be bare footed for the movement part of the class and can wear socks for the relaxation - so no need for trainers.

If you have a yoga mat please bring it, but if you do not have one please let us know and we will quarantine one for your use.

Is this class free to access?

Yes, this class is funded by Sport England and Active Lancashire with additional support from our members who donate unused class passes and ProjectFit who have donated the use of their space which has ample parking.

Where is this class and is there parking?

This class is at ProjectFit on London Road next to the Shiny hand care wash. There is free parking on site.

Emma Lowther-Wright: Studio Director

Hi, I'm Emma and I am very fortunate to have been trained to teach Ashtanga Yoga by world-renowned John Scott. John is one of the key teachers who brought Ashtanga yoga from India to Europe.

I am dedicated to and immersed in the Ashtanga practice and continue to travel to study with senior 500hr international teachers including Eddie Stern, Scott Johnson and Greg Nardi.

I teach with an emphasis on clear communication, empowerment, joy and compassion. I am especially interested in the neuroscience of yoga, how yoga can release physically held mental and emotional tension and how yoga can help us to live with greater joy, confidence and ease.

As well as studio classes I work within the community teaching in workplaces and education settings and to members of our community with physical and mental health challenges including those with deafness, who use a wheelchair and have cognitive challenges.

My classes are heart-lifting, empowering, flowing dances to the rhythm of the breath. I share movement and meditation practices with kindness, encouragement and joy - I hope to welcome you to a class soon.

An oasis of calm and presence

Yoga for anxiety was the only thing that has really helped me in a long time. I was at my wits end when I started. My family noticed the dramatic change after a few weeks. My family said it is the most emotionally stable that they have seen me in 10 years.
