Yoga for Peace of Mind: Phoenix Rising

A free to access beginner-friendly class ideal for anyone with anxiety or seeking peace of mind This is a very gentle and welcoming class introducing you to gentle yoga postures and breathing techniques to help you feel calm and centred.

You will learn yoga movements that are beginner-friendly, relaxing breathing techniques, stress and anxiety coping techniques, guided meditation relaxations and you will receive access to videos and recordings of relaxation techniques to support your learning.

You are welcome to attend as many or as few of the classes as you like but we recommend a minimum of 12 weekly classes if possible, but the class is open until the end of March 2022 and you can attend as many or as few as you are able. We do ask that you let the teacher know if you are unable to attend.

This course is funded through the Phoenix Rising Social Prescribing project funded by the National Academy of Social Prescribing and Arts Council Thriving Communities fund.

A free to access course that combines gentle beginner-friendly yoga postures with relaxing breathing and guided relaxing meditation.

Is this class suitable for beginners?

Yes, the postures are very clearly explained and are beginner-friendly. You don't need to have experienced yoga before.

Do I need to be flexible or fit?

No, you do need to be able to sit on the floor and get back up again fairly easily, but this is a very gentle class focused on helping you to feel relaxed and calm and to help you learn techniques to manage anxiety.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear something you are comfortable stretching in, for example leggings, joggers or shorts and a t-shirt or vest top. We will be bare footed for the movement part of the class and can wear socks for the relaxation - so no need for trainers.

If you have a yoga mat please bring it, but if you do not have one please let us know and we will quarantine one for your use.

Is this class free to access?

Yes, this class is funded by the Thriving Communities Fund with the support of Arts Council, Sport England, Natural England and Lancashire Recovery College.

Where is this class and is there parking?

We are at Mandala. 18 Derby Street, Preston, PR1 1DT. There is free parking on the roads outside the venue and we around the corner from Preston bust station.

How do I book this class?

What do I do when I arrive for class?

Take your shoes off and leave them in the storage spaces and head to the small room opposite the shoe storage and take a seat. The teacher will come and say hi and have a chat with you, make you feel welcome and let you know what to do.
