We are seeking a freelance project manager to help us to deliver our Preston Healthier Together Wellbeing programme funded by The National Lottery.
This new role will play a crucial role in helping us to expand the reach of our work in bringing diverse members of our community together to build friendships and to improve physical and mental wellbeing.
The Project Manager will be responsible for:-
- Working with key partners and community to design programmes, build participation and to build long term relationships
- Working with facilitators and partners to ensure the required number of events are delivered on time and on budget
- Managing and reporting on the programme budget
- Monitoring and reporting on participation levels and taking steps to improve participation where required
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and reviews
- Monitoring and reporting on participant outcomes in a person-centred way
- Representing Mandala at events and meetings to generate awareness and build relationships

Role Overview
The freelance project manager will manage the Mandala Friends and Creative Wellbeing Timetable.
The programme manager will manage the programme so that it delivers its aims of creating friendships across ethnicities, ages and physical and neuro-diversity in order to reduce marginalisation, improve mutual understanding to create stronger communities, decrease isolation and increase resilience.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the required number of Creative Wellbeing sessions and Mandala Friends events are delivered on-time and on-budget.
- Track all elements of the programme deliverables and create monthly, quarterly, and annual reports (detailed below)
- Track and report on programme expenditure against budget.
- Attend meetings and events with key partners to represent Mandala.
- Work with VCSFE and statutory partners to design sessions, build participation and build long term relationships.
- Codesign, generate, collate and present evidence and evaluation for the Directors, funders and publicity, this will include a blend of:-
- Media - photos, videos, audio
- Case studies and postcard feedback
- Questionnaires based on WemWBS
- Facilitator reports tracking how session design has responded to changes in creativity, fitness, confidence etc
- Free form feedback from participants regarding aims, progress and outcomes
Key Reports
A key element of this role is tracking and reporting all elements of the programme deliverables and creating monthly, quarterly and annual reports including:-
- Session delivery – number of events against target
- Session participation – number of participants against target
- Expenditure against budget
- Diversity – ethnicity, age, gender, diversity of need (chronic pain, MS, mobility by tracking which groups they currently attend if any)
- Meetings and events attended and progress towards relationship building with key partners
Programme Details
The Preston Healthier Together project aims are as follows:-
1: The ‘Mandala friends’ events programme is a series of 10 free to attend events per year.
These will provide new opportunities to bring communities together sharing food, films, creating, dancing and trying new activities to strengthen community. We will celebrate diversity, learn about each other’s challenges and life experiences and understand each other more to strengthen community.
2: The creative wellbeing timetable is an expansion of our existing programmes. We will deliver 192 additional free to attend sessions per year.
The programme manager will work with the Directors to codesign and promote these sessions in a way that meets need and integrates with programmes of other community and statutory organisations acknowledging the intersectionality of loneliness with mental & physical health and financial vulnerability.
Covid Recovery & Cost of Living
The Creative Wellbeing and Mandala Friends programmes will support those most affected by Covid and the cost of living crisis, providing warm, welcoming and safe feeling activities and friendships for those finding it difficult to re-enter public life. We will be extending the offerings to those we already work with (those experiencing loneliness, bereavement, chronic health conditions) and paid roles will enable us to reach those who we would not usually walk through our doors.
Person Specification
Required Skills and Experience
Managing community programmes, preferably in arts and movement
An understanding of Social Prescribing including the benefits and challenges
An understanding of the benefits of yoga and arts for wellbeing
Experience of managing budgets
Experience of monitoring and creating reports in Excel, Word and Powerpoint
Experience of building relationships internally and externally and ideally across a wide range of community leaders reflecting the diversity of the city
Working to achieve objectives alone, managing own workload
An understanding of the community sector in Preston and the role it plays
An understanding of the challenges faced by communities in Preston
