Groove: Mood & Fitness Booster

occurs on: Tuesdays
5 weeks from August 10th
time: 6:00 - 7:00
This free Groove course is a fitness class with a difference, it's designed to boost your fitness, mood and confidence.
It's a super-friendly beginners fitness class and is a bit like dancing around the living room with your friends. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

Instead of trying to learn complicated choreography I show you simple, great fun movements that we build on. There's no right or left, no trying to copy an instructor, just moving to great music. Through gentle cues and suggestions I will help you to free up your body to dance fully and really getting into the style of the music.

Simple moves, great music and a welcoming atmosphere for you to release stress and tension and build confidence while also improving your fitness.

Our music includes pop, soul, rock, latin, jazz and more.

What should I wear for Groove?

Whatever you are comfortable dancing in!

I usually wear leggings, shorts or a jumpsuit, but this class can be taken in a skirt, trousers or jeans - anything you are comfortable dancing in.

Do I need dance experience?

You don't need any dance experience to Groove.

There's no left or right, no complicated choreography. Just super-simple moves that I teach and cue and then you dance those moves your way.

Is this a workout / fitness class?

It depends on how much you want to move, you can move a little and slowly or a lot and quickly. I offer lots of options. It's an incredible mood-booster.

Do I need to be fit?

The class is taken in an upstairs room up a steep flight of stairs, so you do need to be able to get up those.

But you get to dance at your own pace, you even get to sit down and Groove if you like.

If you want cardio and strength - you'll dance hard, if you're tired and want to take it easier you can do. We have Groovers in chairs who love the freedom to join in fully with a class while seated.

What if I can't dance?

Everyone can dance! I teach Groove to people who are deaf and people in wheelchairs as well as super-fit 20-somethings.

We are born to respond to rhythmic sound and to enjoy rhythmic movement. I promise you that you will leave this class knowing you can dance!

Do I need trainers?

Nope, I encourage you to dance barefoot as it's slippy in socks.

What is Groove good for?

Groove is great for feeling amazing, releasing stress, having fun, building confidence, building cardio fitness as well as strength, balance and flexibility.

Everyone dances the moves in their own way at their own pace so you can really go for it, or you can be more gentle.

Is the class free?

Yes, 10 people can access this class for free for 4 weeks thanks to the Phoenix Rising project which is supported by the Thriving Communities funding.

How do I book?

Email Emma at info@themandalapreston.com or call on 07549 934 944 and she will reserve you a space.

Where shall I park?

You can park in the B&M car park at the top of Derby Street for free if you pop in and buy something from them.

Can I arrive by bus or bike?

Yes, the bust station is a 3minute walk from Mandala, it's at the top of our street. You can secure your bicycle in the secure car park at the studio, just ask Emma when you arrive.

about the Teacher

Emma Groove & Pound

Emma has danced for fun all her life and loves to share her love of music and movement in her Groove, Barre Yoga and Drum Circle classes, encouraging freedom of expression, joy, curiosity and a healthy dose of silliness.

She likes to remind us that Plato said “Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul” and that's her excuse for always breaking into dance! She believes we are all born with an innate desire to dance and that everyone should be empowered to dance in a way that feels good to them.

Emma trained with Misty Tripoli of the World Groove Movement, Marla Leigh of the Frame Drum Academy, the Village Drum Circle, Barre Concept and Pound. She is also our Ashtanga Yoga teacher and Studio Director!

Groove is my absolute favourite exercise class. Groove has everything you could want: an amazing enthusiastic teacher (the lovely Emma), fantastic fun dance moves and a relaxation/wind down at the end of the class. I love it. Thanks Emma, Sarah. xx

Everything you could want

Groove class moves me right out of my comfort zone into a wild, crazy, energetic and safe space that was wonderful, fun and breathless (in a good way!) Jane

Wild, crazy & eneregtic

Groove helped me lose my inhibitions, move freely and feel completely un-wound! For the first time I could follow an informal routine, adding my own style whilst remaining part of a group. Suzie

Lost Inhibitions

Groove is one of the best classes outside of being at a real gig!  It is like having my own little living room disco but with the added benefit I finish it feeling that all those knots and aches in my brain and my joints have been loosened up and shaken away!  (J, online lockdown Groover)

Living Room Disco

I love Groove, it's the best exercise class ever. The music is always brilliant, the moves are really simple and you can just let go and dance freely because nobody cares what you look like, just have fun. It's also a great workout! Sandra

The best exercise class ever

Emma teaches yoga in such a way that she makes us feel like we are always good enough and always beautiful. In person or online. My classes always leave me feeling wonderful
