Ashtanga Yoga is an energetic practice of strength and grace.
It builds muscular strength, flexibility and balance through its postures.
It improves cardiovascular health through its flowing transitions.
It calms the mind by working on the nervous system.
It builds confidence and self-esteem as you start to find the postures easier (eventually!)
It’s a challenge - but it’s worth it.

 

Course Options

Introductory Workshop - a 2 hour session which includes some background on the practice, the count, breathing, Sanskrit names as well as the postures. If you're not sure whether you need a 6 week course before moving into a full Ashtanga class this introduction is a good option. 

 

6 class course running on Tuesdays or the 12 class course for faster progressions (it gets easier the more you do).

 

The 12 class course includes the Thursday 6-7pm class which is not a course, it's a regular class which is more flowing and at which you will be able to also see those who have been practicing for longer, so you can see how the practice unfolds.

Emma was trained to teach Ashtanga Yoga by world-renowned John Scott and is also trained in ballet fitness, barre and sound therapy meditation. Her classes are heart-lifting, empowering, flowing dances to the rhythm of the breath.

Why Ashtanga Yoga 

Ashtanga is the most energetic and challenging form of yoga. It combines flexibility, strength, balance and cardiovascular fitness. It suits those who are happy to work at their physical yoga practice and to sweat and progress.

 

Students are taught the Ashtanga yoga sequence so that it becomes a joyful moving meditation and students notice their progression. If you want to delve deeper there’s plenty to learn in this practice including the Sanskrit names, the Ashtanga count, mantras, philosophy and pranayama (breathing) and meditation meditation practices. Or you can pop along when you can and join in the peaceful yet joyful yoga sequence.

Our Ashtanga Yoga Teacher 

Emma, our studio Director, is our lead Ashtanga yoga teacher. She studied with and was qualified to teach ashtanga yoga by world-leading ashtanga teacher trainer John Scott.

 

She is dedicated to and immersed in the ashtanga practice and continues to travel to study with John Scott and his senior 500hr international teacher Scott Johnson as well as Greg Nardi and Eddie Stern.

 

Emma teaches with an emphasis on clear communication, empowerment, joy and compassion. She is especially interested in the neuroscience of yoga, how yoga can release physically held mental and emotional tension and how yoga can help us to live with greater joy, confidence and ease.
